While the conflict in Ukraine is blocked, the European Union exceeds the strategic threshold. On May 20, Brussels accepted 17ᵉ the rank of sanctions that focus on the objectives of the previously low: Russian spiritual fleet, the logistics pillar of the bypass of oil. This maneuver, synchronized with London, is a turning point in the economic war against Moscow. By solidifying its line, the EU intends to weaken opaque districts that fund Russian military efforts and maintain pressure on their foreign support.

Strong female figure, in a dark blue suit decorated with 12 golden stars of the EU flag on the left shoulder. She has a glove of justice of glove, holds a massive hammer engraved with a symbol "€". The arms rose, about to shoot a hammer on a bright red set hit by the flag of Russia, located on a symbolic anvil.

In short

  • The European Union accepted the 17th. A package of sanctions against Russia, which aims to intensify economic pressure on Moscow.
  • This new wave specifically focuses on the Russian ghost fleet, a network of nearly 200 ships used to circumvent oil restrictions.
  • In parallel, the United Kingdom announced coordinated sanctions focused on finance, misinformation and Russian military supplier chains.
  • This double queue, maritime and financial, could weaken the logistics and economic abilities of Russia in the medium term.

Head on Fleet Ghost: New Energy Front

In a statement on the ancillary meeting of the Ministers of the European Union in Brussels Kaja Kallas, head of European diplomacy, announced:

The EU approved its 17ᵉ A package of sanctions against Russia that focuses on almost 200 ships in its spiritual fleet.

This decision reflects strategic inflection. After limiting the Russian oil prices, Brussels now intends to intervene mechanisms of bypass established by Moscow through ships acting under satisfaction and often change identities or deactivate their positioning systems.

Here are the main elements focused on this new part:

  • Almost 200 ships suspects from the Russian fleet are registered on the list of sanctioned entities on the list of entities;
  • These ships are accused of masking the origin of Russian oil to sell it in Asian or African markets, by circumventing Western restrictions;
  • The EU’s aim is to limit the energy revenue that supports Russian war efforts;
  • This strategy is based on better customs and maritime coordination within the Union to strengthen the supervision of an unsuccessful export road.

The focus on financial flows or energy companies not only, but physical vectors of oil oil trade, the EU improves its system.

This development reflects consciousness. Russia’s economic resistance, an influential member of the BRICS, is partially based on opaque logistics networks that are difficult to capture without specific measures.

The political message is therefore clear. Moscow will not be able to play with a maneuver room that has left existing sanctions.

Offensive coordinated funding and misinformation

As a result of the European Union, the United Kingdom also announced a new volley of measures to strike Moscow on other fronts. According to an official statement by the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these sanctions are related to the financial sector, military supply chains and Russian relays of misinformation.

Sanctions focus on financial institutions, individuals accused of promoting Russian misinformation and supplier chains of Russian fatal weapons, especially Isiskander missiles“Said a foreign office.”

This dimension, different from the European maritime approach, is completing the ASphyxiation strategy by focusing on financing and production districts.

Indeed, these new measures are involved in the context with increased tension after a massive drone attack against several Ukrainian regions last weekend.

In addition, they reflect the political desire to respond quickly to climbing and at the same time limit the technological and financial room for the Kremlin. In parallel, the British government said it has worked with its international partners to strengthen the Russian limits of the oil price to further reduce income from the Russian energy sector.
