While the conflict in Ukraine is going through a critical course, Kiev and its Western allies support a design for a ceasefire of 30 days, integral and without conditions. This initiative, supported by Washington and the main European capitals, is to open a violation of interviews. In addition to the challenge for a ceasefire, however, the question dominates: will Russia see a real outstretched hand or a tactical maneuver hiding a strategic advantage for Ukraine? The answer could redraw the balance of forces at the diplomatic level.

A courageous European diplomatic initiative
On May 10, 2025 in Kiev, Ukraine and its Western Allies, they presented a proposal for a total and unconditional ceasefire. This 30 -day ceasefire, which should start on Monday, May 12, would apply to all fronts: land, air and sea. Here are the main elements of this initiative:
- A 30 -day design of the ceasefire: the ceasefire is complete and unconditional, including all fronts (land, Sea, Air);
- Support for European leaders: the presence in Kiev of European leaders, Emmanuel Macron (France), Friedrich Merz (Germany), Keir Starmer (Great Britain) and Donald Tusk (Poland) to support this initiative;
- Volodymyr Zelsky in the foreground: The Ukrainian President launched a ceasefire and emphasized the importance of opening the way to peace actions;
- Support Donald Trump: The US President expressed his support by calling for a complete ceasefire of 30 days and insisted on the importance of this break for de-school.
- Americans-European discussions: Emmanuel Macron said there were discussions between the United States and Europe to create a common plan aimed at guaranteeing a ceasefire.
Blockages on the Russian side: Question of guarantees
While the offer seems to have found a large echo in the West, Russia has not yet responded to this proposal. In the past, Moscow has rejected such an initiative and claimed that a fixed warranty was first required to stop the delivery of weapons to Ukraine before it was able to consider a ceasefire.
According to analysts close to the Kremlin, the demand for an unconditional 30 -day ceasefire is Western pressure to weaken Russian military capacity. The adoption of the ceasefire in this period could provide a strong symbolic and media dimension to the West, which Russia is poorly perceived, an influential member of the Alliance BRIC.
On the other hand, Vladimir Putin in a later statement proposed new direct negotiations between aggressive in Istanbul, but under specific conditions: Ukraine should first recognize certain Russian successes in its territory.
These negotiations would be a way for Russia to save time in consolidating their positions on Earth. The result of this proposal remains uncertain and diplomats are interested in the reaction of other international actors. On the one hand, American and European diplomacy seeks an immediate compromise, but on the other hand, the Kremlin seems to play a strategic waiting card and hopes for more important concessions over time.
